Fenmarc
Based in the Fenland of East Anglia, Fenmarc is a large-scale supplier of fresh vegetable produce to ASDA and has had a long and beneficial relationship with several Data Interchange products.
When looking for an e-business solution, they wanted a straightforward, easy-to-use product that would fit in neatly with their self-developed in-house programs, and ODEX Enterprise fitted their bill perfectly.
Fenmarc use the AS2 communications protocol to send and receive EDI messages with ASDA. Flat files produced by the Fenmarc in-house systems are copied to a network directory from which they are picked up by ODEX Enterprise. ODEX then translates the flat files into the EDI format required by ASDA and sends them via AS2, with the full security required by ASDA. This entails data encrypted using 3DES 168 encryption and files digitally signed using the SHA-1 signature algorithm.
The EDI messages sent by ASDA to Fenmarc are received by ODEX and automatically allocated to a Workflow Channel which translates the EDI format into the flat file format required by the Fenmarc in-house systems. The translated files are then copied to the appropriate in-house system.
"We were looking for a communications package that could support our business, with the flexibility to integrate with our own software. ODEX has performed that task very well and has become an integral part of our communications process."
Paul Bower, IT Manager, Fenmarc
