The only configuration required for a Bintec X1000 Router is to enter the basic IP details (Address/subnet/gateway). This needs to be done via a hyperterminal connecting using the console cable provided with the router (once connected, the router will prompt you for this information).
You do not need to change anything else from its default setting (in fact doing so may cause problems).
In its default state, the router will allow ODEX to connect to it and control it. ODEX uses the CAPI protocol to tell the router who to call and what type of call to make (X.25 over ISDN). The router by default does not accept incoming ISDN calls (if you are using the router for calls to the Inland Revenue, the Inland Revenue will never attempt to call you, so this is the safest option).
The only potential problem is that the router defaults to automatically detecting the ISDN line type (which varies depending on the country). It only does this when starting, so if the ISDN cable is first connected after the router has been switched on, you will need to restart it using the "halt" command (or recycling the power) so that it correctly identifies the ISDN line.
If you need calls to be accepted and passed to ODEX:
- Run the Setup program
- Select the WAN Interface
- Select "incoming call answering"
- Select Add
- Select an Item of "ISDN Login" and Mode of "right to left"
If you want to restrict access to just the ODEX application:
- Run the Setup Program
- Select "CAPI" under "WAN Partner"
- Select "User" and remove the default user
- Add a new user with a password
- This user/password then needs to be entered in the CAPI configuration of ODEX.
