More Information:

Open up a console connection to the router. This can be performed using a serial cable, an IP telnet connection or an ISDN login (the manual provided with the router will provide further information). The router will need to be given an IP address and, if ODEX/EPIC is on a different network, it will need an IP route to that network.

Once IP connectivity has been verified between the application and the router (try a telnet connection from the ODEX/EPIC machine), the router can be configured to make and accept ISDN calls.

  1. Telnet to the router
  2. Run “setup”
  3. Select the ISDN WAN interface that will be used
  4. Ensure that an ISDN switch type has been chosen (in Europe this should be “Euro ISDN point to multipoint”). Note that the Auto-configuration option will only work if an ISDN line was connected before the router was switched on.

The router should now allow CAPI applications to register against it and make outgoing calls. In order for applications to accept incoming calls, some additional changes need to be made.

  1. Run “setup” and select the ISDN WAN interface that will be used.
  2. Select “Incoming Call Answering” section against the ISDN interface
By default the router will treat all incoming calls as attempts to open a console connection to the router (handled by the router’s “ISDN Login” service). New entries can be added in this section to route different types of call to specific services. Once at least one such entry has been created, the default behaviour changes and any calls that don’t match the entries listed will be passed to any registered CAPI applications.
  3. Create a new entry with an Item of “ISDN Login”, a mode of “right to left” and a bearer of “voice”

All OFTP calls will have a bearer type of “Data” and so will not match this entry, hence will be passed to ODEX/EPIC. When exiting the setup program, the router will prompt to save the changes (the changes take effect as soon as they are entered, but, without saving, would be lost the next time the router is restarted). If there are multiple ISDN interfaces within the router, then please see the following Knowledge Base article.
