More Information:

First of all you must install the same version of ODEX on the new machine and then open and run it before restoring any files. Failure to do this will result in problems when you try to start ODEX for the first time.

N.B. The steps below assume that Odex Professional was installed in C:\EDI32. However, some versions may have used the folder C:\Program Files\DIP\ODEX, in which case that should be used.

To move ODEX to the new PC you must copy the following files across:

  • c:\edi32\database\ODEX.mdb (this is the ODEX Database, which contains all your send/received files, user directory and scheduled events).
  • c:\edi32\FTP\ (this is a list of files sent and received by ODEX)
  • c:\edi32\xlate\*.IDX
  • c:\edi32\xlate\*.HDF
  • c:\edi32\xlate\*.EDF
  • c:\edi32\xlate\*.TBL
  • c:\edi32\xlate\*.PRM
  • Xlate files
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Data Interchange Plc\ODEX Windows (this is the ODEX registry key, which contains details of the events configured in the event manager and CAMPs).
  • If you have any batch files and command files that are used by ODEX you will also need to copy these across.

To copy the ODEX registry key, select Start -> Run -> type in regedit and click OK. This will bring up the following dialog.

In Regedit, use the File >> Export Registry Key menu option (or Registry >> Export Registry File, depending on your operating system) to copy the existing branch of the registry to a .reg file.

You can then copy this file across to the new machine and run it (double-click it to run it) in order to import the settings into the new registry automatically.

If you are using the Odex batch interface, then you will need to copy the contents of the Object Server subdirectory from the old PC.
