More Information: FTP is a relatively simple method of exchanging files. An FTP client connects to an FTP server.
Once connected, the user controlling the client can browse files on the server, selecting to receive files that he wants to receive and, if allowed by the server, depositing files.
This method is most commonly used for making data available to the public over the Internet.
It is also used to copy data from one in-house system (e.g. a Unix system) to another (e.g. ODEX).
