When moving the ODEX Enterprise server to a new PC, you may also wish upgrade your ODEX. You have two options for this upgrade. Either install the existing version of the ODEX software on the new PC first, then upgrade the new PC to the newer ODEX version, or upgrade ODEX to the new version on the Old PC first and then install the new version on the new PC. You cannot move ODEX to a new PC and upgrade the version in the same step.
To move ODEX server to a new PC you should follow these steps.
1. Install ODEX on the new PC. The version used should be the same version as the one on the old PC.
2. Once installed, you should start ODEX for the first time and run the Administrator to enter the Lock codes from the old system.
You now have a working ODEX installation on the new PC but it has not been configured and contains no historic data.
3. On the old PC, stop the ODEX Server and run the database backup utility (Start, Programs, Data Interchange PLC, ODEX Enterprise, ODEX Database Backup). Put in a path and filename to copy the backup file to and click OK. The path cannot be on a network drive. If you wish to copy across to a network drive, create the file locally (C:\ etc) and then copy the backup file to the network.
4. Copy the database backup and the following directories to the new PC. The directories should be placed in the same locations on the new PC. Please note that on Some operating systems "C:\Program Files" may be changed to "\C:\ProgramData".
C:\Program Files\DIP\ODEX Enterprise\Comms
C:\Program Files\DIP\ODEX Enterprise\Data
C:\Program Files\DIP\ODEX Enterprise\Log
If you are using translation software XLATE or XE you will also need to copy the folders
C:\Program Files\DIP\ODEX Enterprise\Xe
C:\Program Files\DIP\ODEX Enterprise\Xlate
5. Restore the database on the new PC by running the database backup utility (Start, Programs, Data Interchange Plc, ODEX Enterprise, ODEX Database Backup). Ensure that you select the Restore button. Put in a path and filename to read the backup file from, and click OK.
You should now have a working ODEX on your new PC. Check that all programs and views are showing the data that you expect. Remember that any changes to individual client views of the Darwin data (such as filter or column settings) will not have been copied over so may need to be reset.
