When editing an EDI file the editor does not allow it to be saved

All versions of XE

Symptoms: When editing an EDI definition within the XE definition editor, it will not allow changes to be saved and displays the below error:

“There is more than one unqualified instance of the segment [<Segment>] at the same level”

Cause: This is due to there being more than one service segment within the EDI definition.  In certain messages (CUSDEC for example) it is correct to have multiple instances of the UNS segment.
Resolution:

One possible workaround is to edit the definition manually using a text editor.  Please make sure that XE is not running when you save your changes.  Please double check with support if you are unsure of any changes that need to be made.
