Overview
DEVILS allows organisations to electronically
exchange vehicle registration information requests with the DVLA. DEVILS meets the
requirements of organisations that have multiple departments transmitting large numbers of
requests or those that have more sporadic demands.
Exchanging the requests electronically has the benefit of:
-
Reduced administration
-
Reduced human intervention
-
Faster response times
-
Overall reduction in cost
ODEX Enterprise is used to provide the communications to the DVLA so that information can be exchanged
between in-house systems that are capable of creating Vehicle Enquiry (VE) data and processing the received Vehicle Enquiry Response (VER) data. In the event
of multiple departments and systems needing to exchange information with the DVLA, ODEX can
act as a gateway for the entire organisation.
Organisations that are handling a large number of DVLA transactions will probably have a
system that can process VE/VER information. For organisations or departments where the
volume of transactions means that the expense of a processing system cannot be justifie, DEVILS provides the solution.
DEVILS meets the requirements of organisations or departments that need to obtain
registered owner information electronically from the DVLA. Coupling closely with ODEX Enterprise to provide the communications tot he DVLA, DEVILS allows you to
create the VE data and view the VER response.
ODEX Enterprise can take all the requests generated during the day from all
departments and transmit them in batch to the DVLA in time for the daily VE processing run.
The DVLA system generates the VER response and these are
automatically transmitted back to the originator of the request. When the data is received by ODEX Enterprise it can automatically be
integrated into one or more in-house applications.
Solution Analysis
ODEX Enterprise provides the communications and data routing, with DEVILS
providing optional data processing for smaller organisations or autonomous
departments.
ODEX Enterprise
ODEX Enterprise provides
the communications interface between the DVLA and an organisation's in-house
systems capable of processing VE/VER information and/or
DEVILS.
ODEX Enterprise supports
OFTP, the preferred method of connection to the DVLA, over network protocols such as
ISDN, TCP/IP and X.25. OFTP allows for multi-departmental routing and therefore
ODEX can act as a gateway through which the VE/VER information is
channelled.
User events can be defined
that allow file scheduling and extraction, providing seamless integration
between ODEX and back-end systems. The events can be tailored with the
specification of advanced criteria to allow ODEX to act as the front-end system
for any number of departments within the organisation. This eliminates the
requirement for duplicate systems that are, in essence, performing the same
function.
DEVILS
DEVILS provides a solution
for organisations that need to exchange electronic VE/VER data with the DVLA.
The application is suited to organisations or departments that cannot justify
the investment in a violation management system but still require enquiry
tracking and high quality reporting.
DEVILS allows an authorised
user to generate a request to obtain details of the registered owner of a motor
vehicle from the DVLA. This is stored within an internal database for future
cross-reference and the VE (the electronic equivalent of a VQ4 form) is
generated. The request can be transmitted at the point of generation or
alternatively grouped together with other requests for transmission later, when
it will form part of a batch.
Upon receipt of data from the
DVLA, ODEX Enterprise automatically forwards this to DEVILS. The VER (the
electronic equivalent of the VQ5) data received from the DVLA is processed and
the response is matched against the enquiry. The status of the enquiry is
changed and DEVILS can generate a VQ5 report from the
response.
User access to the system is
controlled by a login name and password that is defined by the system
administrator. To maintain the highest level of security users can only view the
status and replies to their own transactions. In addition every request is
logged against the user that raised it for total visibility of system activity.
More Communications
Although ODEX Enterprise
has been the focus of the solution, we provide OFTP communications
software on other platforms. Organisations that have centralised around a single
platform might want to have their communications gateway on the same platform as
the in-house application.
We provide ODEX for use on MVS, OS/400, AIX, HP/UX and SCO UNIX.
